Plate 52 of The Birds of America, by John Audubon, the Chuck Will’s Widow. These two are none too happy at the presence of a Coral Snake in their tree, and that is a depiction of a real and venomous coral snake (red on yellow, kill a fellow), not one of its non-toxic mimics. Like other nightjars the Chuck Will’s Widows have tiny little feet and great big mouths, the latter of which one is trying to intimidate the snake with- “Get out of my tree or I’ll gobble you up.”
