Plate 68 of The Birds of America by John Audubon, the Republican or Cliff Swallow. These are the famous ‘Swallows of Capistrano’ that return to Mission San Juan Capistrano in California every March 19th, at least they did until they decided they’d prefer to hang out at a local golf course instead- more bugs to eat.
